The 1st Annual Playhouse West-Philadelphia 25 Day Film Project, a two-part filmmaking competition and fundraising event. Production teams are competing to see who can make the best short film in 25 days.
This year's genre is Horror/Suspense/Thriller! Minimum run time for each film is 3 minutes, up to a maximum of 10 minutes, including all credits. Each film also had to include three specific elements organically into the story. These elements were given out at the start of the Part 1 so teams could not plan their film in advance.
(1) WARDROBE ELEMENT: A HALLOWEEN COSTUME must be incorporated into the action of at least one scene.
(2) CINEMATIC ELEMENT: ONE ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENT must be incorporated organically into the action of a scene, to heighten suspense or add conflict. These elements include: wind, rain, water, fire/flame, extreme or intense cold or heat, darkness. Imagine how any of these elements can increase the conflict and add suspense to a scene in this horror/suspense/thriller genre!
(3) ACTING ELEMENT: AN IMPEDIMENT. At least one character must have some kind of impediment. These include physical impediments such as an illness, sickness, an injury (permanent or temporary), a disability, a speech impediment, or some kind of mental or emotional disability.
Part 1: FILM COMPETITION began Friday, October 5, 2018, at 6 a.m. Production teams were given 25 days to write, cast, produce, shoot, edit and submit a completed film by 11:59 p.m., on October 30.
Part 2: PUBLIC SCREENINGS: Saturday, November 4, 2018. The completed and qualified films will receive a public screening at a Playhouse West-Philadelphia Theater, 1218 Wallace Street. There will be 2 screening blocks (see below).

Awards will be presented for Best Horror/Suspense/Thriller Short, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Screenplay, Best Original Music/Score, Best Actor &Actress, Best Supporting Actor & Actress. The winner for Best Romantic Comedy Short receives an automatic selection and screening at next year's Playhouse West Film Festival-Philadelphia, to be held in June, 2019.
